So There's An Alternate Ending Of "Titanic" Floating Around The Interwebs And It Sucks Worse Than The Original One

NDTV - James Cameron's Titanic is considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made. The 1997 romance and disaster film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as star-crossed lovers whose story is set against the backdrop of the sinking of RMS Titanic. The movie became a massive success upon its release and remained the highest-grossing film of all time for 12 years. It was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won in 11 categories - but fans are convinced that this impressive feat would not have been possible if an alternative ending to the blockbuster had been chosen instead of the one that makers eventually went with.

A resurfaced video which has gone viral on Twitter with 1.3 million views shows an alternative ending to Titanic that was released on DVD years after the movie garnered jaw-dropping success in theatre.

In the actual version of Titanic, an older Rose (played by Gloria Stewart) throws the 'heart of the ocean' necklace overboard. She does this secretly such that nobody sees her throwing the rare diamond into the ocean.

In the alternative ending, however, Rose briefly places the priceless necklace in treasure hunter Brock Lovett's hands before flicking it into the ocean with a smile. "You look for treasure in the wrong places, Mr Lovett. Only life is priceless, and making each day count," she says before chucking the necklace into water.

Let me make this short and sweet.

Titanic is the most overblown movie of all time.

11 Oscars? Come on.

I know people, I mean "the academy", were prisoners of the moment in 1997, but looking back on its critical success you can't help but wonder how James Cameron managed to ever take a piss in 1997 with his nuts permanently situated in everybody's mouth. And commercially, if there was any other movie out in theatres that year?

I'm not saying it was a bad movie, but it wasn't an 11 Oscar (out of 14 nominations) movie.

Secondly, this old lady is a horrible actress. Just awful.

It's no wonder they cut this scene.

They probably did 100 takes of it and couldn't help from laughing each time she Trevor Bauer'd that necklace into the ocean.

What a joke. Who thought that was a potentially appropriate ending?

Lastly, if that scene were real life, and that old lady fired that necklace into the ocean, you have no choice but to dump her in head first after that right?

You just sat around for four hours listening to her ramble on about the time she went slumming on a cruise ship with a poor guy who she made draw her before they fucked. Then how she basically murdered him. All in hopes of getting that diamond. Then when she's done, adios. You'd lose it and it would be granny overboard. Much better ending if we're all being honest.

p.s. - full disclosure, I hadn't seen Titanic until about 5 years ago. After I missed the boat on it (see what I did there?) back when it was out I decided I was 100% out on it and wore it like a badge of honor. A true White Sox Dave kind of move. That changed 5 years ago when my lady forced me to sit down and watch it like the scene in Clockwork Orange.

I'm not saying my bias played into me not loving it but I'm not not saying it either. Was just meh.
