In High School Joey Gallo Threw A No-Hitter And Then Took Greg Maddux's Daughter To Prom That Same Night
Joey Gallo was on MLB Network for their 30 Clubs In 30 Days segment the other day and the guys were asking him the normal baseball questions. How he's getting ready for the season and all that and then they unleashed this monster story on us.
Turns out the Rangers slugger was rubbing elbows with MLB legends back before he was hitting long bombs in the bigs. He took Greg Maddux's daughter to prom on the same day that he pitched a no-hitter. Talk about a day, eh? Not only do you have prom, one of the best high school days of your life, but you go out there and throw a no-no leading up to it? I mean this is a high school movie plot. Star player of the high school game has a career game and then ends up taking out the legend's daughter to prom? Match made in heaven.
Imagine trying to have that small talk with your dates dad and he's one of the 5 best pitchers of our generation and a Hall Of Famer but you're also one of the best players in your state and are fresh off of a no-hitter. If there is one guy that a dad wouldn't be able to give the hard ass handshake to it's probably a 17 year-old Joey Gallo too. Look how big he is in that picture in the video, he's a monster. It had to have been super intimidating stepping up to the front door and Greg Maddux answers the door. But at least Joey had the baseball card in his back pocket, and if Gallo REALLY wanted to establish his dominance he could have asked Greg about his no-hitters in the bigs...OH WAIT, MADDUX DIDN'T HAVE ANY. You wanna show your date's dad that you're the alpha? Flex on him with the no hitter that he doesn't have. Obviously that didn't happen because Gallo is an outstanding young man but he did always have that card in his back pocket.
A pretty cool day that Gallo can look back on, no-no in high school hours before taking Mad Dog's daughter to prom. What a day for high school Joey Gallo.
