After 4 Elbow Surgeries, The Rays 2014 2nd Round Pick Brent Honeywell Finally Makes His MLB Debut And It Was Awesome

Claps for Brent Honeywell Jr on the Rays. If you're a baseball fan you may remember the name and his story. Such a long road for him but today was a milestone for him, making is MLB debut. He was a second round pick way back in 2014 out of Walters State CC. He was the MVP of the 2017 Futures Game but since then it's been nothing but bad news. 4 elbow surgeries, all since March 2018. You name an elbow injury and he's had it. Tommy John surgery, broken bone in his elbow, right ulnar nerve damage, he's had it all. The last game he pitched in was September 2017 so for him to step back on the bump today against the Yankees no less, you can't not be happy for this kid. Hope he soaked it all in and enjoyed it.

I couldn't imagine the things that went through his head as he got to the ballpark today. Tons of rehab, all the surgeries, probably had tons of people telling him to hang em up before he even made his major league debut. Got to be super strong mentally to comeback from everything he has. What an emotional day for the kid. He was tabbed as the Rays opener and knew his day was going to be limited, 2 innings, 2 strikeouts. First inning was 1-2-3 and 9 pitches. First two career strikeouts being Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, couldn't have written it up much better. Couldn't be happier for the kid and I hope he stays healthy and becomes a weapon for the Rays. What an awesome story.
