How do you think that place is going to sound during their first playoff game in almost a decade after being locked in their apartments for a year because of a pandemic that made the city its epicenter for a while? Not only that, but all of us watching on TV have been blessed with Mike Breen on the play-by-play with Clyde on the color commentary as what I imagine will be the most colorful suit on the planet resting on his shoulders.
As for the actual game, I am not even CLOSE to being ready for playoff basketball nerves or really any types of playoff nerves considering the Giants losing to the Packers is the last time any of my teams tasted the postseason. Please God tell me that no Knicks were on a boat in Miami this week.
Just getting my hate levels up to a respectable playoff level for a team I have never cared about has been tough, even though Reags' guide to hating the Hawks has helped a bit. I already hate Trae Young with all my overworked heart and am sure I will learn to despise every player to ever wear a Hawks jersey outside of Dikembe Mutombo because I'm pretty sure it's impossible to hate Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo.
Actually fuck the Hawks. This series is all about the guys who we have relied on all season coming through. Julius Randle has to continue to cook the birds to at least his regular season averages of 37/12/6 against Atlanta. RJ needs to keep growing up right in front of our eyes. Derrick Rose must lead the bench into battle as well as he has all season. Thibs just needs to keep being Thibs (except please God stop playing Elfrid Payton meaningful, if any minutes).
