Now That's What I Call Mass! Volume 2: Spirit & Song!

Back in January I compiled the first ever "Now That's What I Call Mass!" playlist.

The tunes mostly matched the weather and time of year. Gloomy. Some emotional pulls on the you. A good amount that would be considered "funeral songs". But now Memorial Day is over. Summer is officially here. So we're bringing the light of christ back to you along with the sun with the sophomore album of summertime, "Now That's What I Call Mass! Volume 2: Spirit & Song!:

Church in the summer always felt 100x better. Weather is typically nice. Sunshine. Warmth. That plus you know the Sunday scaries won't set in until the second weekend in August because the weekend never ends during summer break. You know you have a day at the pool or at a ballpark to follow instead of constantly checking over your shoulder at the clock or waiting to hear the 60 Minutes ticking to know that the fun is almost over. Everyone's just in a better mood.

1. Blessed Be Your Name

Holy shit am I at a rock concert or church???

2. To You, O God, I Lift Up My Soul

A nice little jam between readings. Your sister probably had a solo she had to rip during this one at some point. Breakfast / lunch to reward her good performance afterwards.

3. I Rejoiced

Got a nice clap starting and all of a sudden it feels like you're at the state fair. Grandma's favorite!

4. Lead Me, Lord

5. Siyahamba (We Are Marching)

Always a big, BIG day when you nailed the Swahili part. Once you get it once, you get it forever.

6. Let The River Flow

Two types of parents: ones who let you do the arm worm along with "Let The River Flow" and ones who glared through your soul if you attempted it. Good luck if you stayed the night at a buddy's house the night before whose parents were the latter.

7. I'm Trading My Sorrows (Yes Lord)

What a worship JAM. Trading your sorrows and pain. I say YES Lord. The hand motions for this one were the Big League's of church singalong songs. They were like memorizing the cheat codes for NFL Blitz. Thumbs up + point to sky, + thumbs up + point to sky + thumbs up (x2) + point to sky AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

8. Awesome God

A lot of power in this one. Speaks for itself. Pretty much summer Now That's What I Call Mass! are all just the bangers with hand motions.

9. Here I Am To Worship

This one has you thinking about maybe…just maybe…youtubing to mp3 / limewiring this song for your own listening pleasure outside of church.

10. Open The Eyes of My Heart

11. Shout To The Lord

12. Pharoah, Pharoah

Remixing an all-time classic rock tune to make it a church worship hit is a baller move. Pleases all ages. Grandpa gets down with it. The band is rocking with (maybe…?) a guitar solo in there. All the kids love the "HUH!" part flexing their muscles. Great fun to wrap up an awesome summertime day of worship that somehow seems to go twice as fast as one in January.

Off to the pool. YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
