Anderson Silva Beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr In A Boxing Match This Weekend And Looked GREAT Doing So
One of the coolest things to happen in combat sports this past weekend was Anderson Silva's return to the squared circle, where he defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via split decision (that ABSOLUTELY should've been unanimous) in an eight-round boxing bout down in Mexico.
When I interviewed Anderson a few weeks back, he talked to me at length about how seriously he was taking this fight (got a whole new team of boxing coaches for it), and that definitely showed in the ring. He found his angles, landed some good shots, and avoided a ton of Julio's with some classic "Spider" style.
Chavez Jr NOT taking the fight so seriously showed as well (SHOCKER), after another whole weight-missing dilemma especially....
Pretty good spinzone tho, I must admit.
Since Anderson's return to the ring went so well, I'd expect him to capitalize and book another boxing match soon - probably before the end of the year. As far as opponents go, I think it'll be against Roy Jones Jr.
There's been talk of that fight for like a decade and there's no more convenient time for both fighters than now, not under contract with anyone; plus Roy called that matchup his "dream fight" as recently as March….
Even Jake Paul wants that fight to happen….
….so that's one to keep an eye on for sure. Congrats to The Spider on a great victory, tho! It was a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
