Peter Jackson Is Turning His 'Beatles' Documentary Film Into A 6-Hour Miniseries On Disney+

Deadline- Director Peter Jackson’s long-in-the-making Beatles documentary will debut in three two-hour episodes over three days – November 25, 26 and 27 – exclusively on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Studios, Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd. announced the dates for The Beatles: Get Back, a Disney+ Original documentary series directed by Jackson that Disney says features a “wealth of tremendous footage Peter Jackson has reviewed, which he has spent the past three years restoring and editing...”

“In many respects, Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s remarkable footage captured multiple storylines. The story of friends and of individuals...."

"It is the story of human frailties and of a divine partnership…."

"It is a detailed account of the creative process, with the crafting of iconic songs under pressure, set amid the social climate of early 1969…."

"But it’s not nostalgia – it’s raw, honest, and human…."

"Over six hours, you’ll get to know The Beatles with an intimacy that you never thought possible.”

For the first time ever, the rooftop performance – the Beatles’ final live performance as a group – will be seen in its entirety.

God bless Peter Jackson for having absolutely no self control when it comes to cutting footage. This motherfucker deals exclusively in epics. He's famous for making some of the longest 'Director's Cuts' (outta already long movies) ever, he made a 'King Kong' movie where it took em like 2 hours to show the god damn monkey, and now he's stretching out his Beatles film - originally set to release in theaters this August - into a six-hour mini-series on Disney+ over Thanksgiving weekend.

EVERYTHING about this sounds fucking spectacular if you're a Beatles fan, though. That 'Get Back' project is so infamous for being a tumultuous time in the band and has been talked about ad nauseam, but now we actually get to SEE it at length - and from what everyone is saying…history mighta been a bit off on that one!

I know this is gonna have a much different vibe than 'The Beatles Anthology' and only focus on one particular time period in the band, but this now has the real potential to overtake it as the best documentary ever made about the Fab Four in my eyes. I can't imagine myself not watching this a dozen times the week it's released if ONLY for the rooftop performance in full! Truly can't wait.

Oh, and how about this….

Jackson is the only person in 50 years to have been given access to these private film archives. The Beatles: Get Back chronicles John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in over two years – what would be the famous rooftop performance –  capturing the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs originally intended for release on an accompanying live album.

All of this unbelievable footage has just been sitting in a vault, untouched, for fifty years.

What else do you think is out there from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, etc?!
