It's Time That We Have The Umpire Camera Angles Added To MLB Broadcasts
The College World Series has been fantastic this year. We've seen some great games, awesome story lines, Cinderella stories and characters straight out of Kenny Powers. But my favorite thing and maybe the best thing to come out of Omaha is the umpire camera angle. It's pretty damn simple but it's awesome. A camera smack on top of the umpire's mask gives us such a good look at the pitches coming in and the hits going out. It's great to see Kumar Rocker's sliders look un-hittable.
95 on the outside corner? Yeah, looks filthy from the ump's point of view. Big T broke down the Jack Leiter high cheese from that angle and it's so cool to see. It really helps you see the break on pitches, how fast the fastballs are coming in, how knee buckling the big curveballs are. And now think about it if we could watch Shohei Ohtani from that angle, or Jacob deGrom, or Gerrit Cole with spider tack. It would be so sick to see that, why do we not have it in MLB? It can't cost a lot of money, I know we get some different angles for the Home Run Derby, they used to put that camera in the dirt in front of the batters box for it so why can't we get an umpire cam for games? I'm surprised we don't have it in the bigs, I don't see any cons to having it. Should be implemented immediately in MLB to give us that awesome view of 100 coming in hot. It's something new that people would like to see so MLB probably won't sniff it for a few years though. Manfred doesn't have time to worry about improving how the game looks on TV, he's too busy trying to find pine tar on pitchers and having them strip-searched. Give us the ump camera angle and give it to us now!
