It Wouldn't Be A Soccer Match In France Without A Full On Brawl On The Field Between Fans After A 0-0 Tie
Action really picks up around the 22 second mark
[The Sun] - MARSEILLE hooligans overwhelmed security and stormed on to the pitch to take on the home fans as tensions boiled over in their goalless draw at Angers.
Stewards and the stadium announcer tried desperately to calm the situation but were pushed aside by the raging mob.
Supporters reportedly let off flares and firecrackers at each other during the Ligue 1 game, which saw Marseille in second draw with Angers in third.
Reports in France even suggest Marseille raised concerns before kick-off that it would be too easy for fans to access the pitch at Stade Raymond Kopa.
There are always different levels to fights. You have your donnybrooks, you have your brouhahas, you have your arguments and then this. This is a brawl through and through. Of course it happens after a tie though. Listen, I love soccer but people can't stand ties. I get it. It's tough to sit there and go okay after 90 minutes we're just going to wrap it up and each team gets a point. Just play a golden goal OT, winner gets 2 points, loser gets 1 or something.
But what the hell is going on France? They can't stop beating the shit out of each other.
That was Nice fans attacking Marseille players and now we have Marseille and Angers fans going at each other. Setting off firecrackers and flares at each other too? That's such a soccer move. Soccer fans fucking love setting off flares. Another guarantee with soccer fans during a brawl is they'll find anything to be a weapon. Using shit from the stands, the gates, etc. They'll pick it up and start swinging.
I don't know if it's just me being me or being normal, but I can't imagine getting into a brawl at a sporting event. Don't get me wrong, I live and breathe my sports teams. They determine my short-term mood. But I can't think of a time I'd ever just brawl with other fans. Make fun of them via Twitter? Of course. But fisticuffs? No thank you. Knowing my luck, my back would give out the moment I stepped into a punch anyways.
I do gotta give some credit to the stewards here. There's no chance I'm getting involved and catching a stray punch if I'm one of them. I'm just hightailing it out of there and saying it's not my job. Get the actual police involved or something. They are probably working there strictly to watch soccer for free. Last thing you want to do is get caught in the middle of a brawl.
Now an obligatory Green Street Hooligans.
