It's Time To Put The Final Nail In The Coffin of Big Ben & The Steelers
What a sad, sad day. An era-ending day. Take a second and think about this (and maybe take a shot or five while you do) - the Pittsburgh Steelers have gotten their ass whooped at home by the Browns and the Bengals in their last four games.
A joke. An absolute joke. Something that cannot happen in Pittsburgh.
I've defended Big Ben time and time again. Fallen on the sword for him both in the offseasons, during the seasons, postseason, and more since i've joined this company. I'm finally out. I'm done. I've joined the rest of you. He's more washed than my water shoes I wore to the beach in Mexico yesterday. I said it on Twitter during Sunday's game against the Bengals - Big Ben's career is in it's late teen years. Once you get to 18-19 years old it's time to move on. Time to move out. Your parents love you still, but they don't want you around full-time. Sure, you can come visit for the anniversary teams and holidays, but then you gotta go. It's just time.
For the first time in my pre-teen, teen, and adult life, the Steelers absolutely stink. There's no fixing this squad as it currently sits. Sure, Ben is old and not good anymore, but the offensive line is probably the worst he's ever played with. Receivers? Still having drops when Claypool isn't running his mouth and still have them even when he does. Then the defense? I've been high on them all offseason long but they continue to give up big play after big play. 30 seconds left to go in the half tied at 7 and you give up a 30+ yard shot to a rookie receiver? Gimme a break.
Whatever "window" that we all kidded ourselves into believing throughout the offseason and especially after week one in Buffalo has been slammed shut. Hell, not even just slammed shut, there's some apocalyptic iron slammed over those boys, too. It's a sad, sad day for Steeler Nation. One I don't think we've realistically felt for a long while. One of hopelessness. And the worst part about it is like I've already said there isn't just one problem to point to to fix and say "yeah we'll be back on track to fight for a playoff position if we just do _______". It's all around. From top to bottom.
I'll have my Terrible Towel and jersey ready to go for week four in Lambeau because I love this team. But next week, and probably the rest of the season, it'll be in memoriam instead of hope and celebration.
