BREAKING: Skittles Is Permanently Replacing Green Apple Skittles With Lime Skittles
AP News- It’s the moment SKITTLES fans have been waiting eight years for. Today, the SKITTLES brand announced that its infamous Lime flavor candies are returning to the rainbow permanently in SKITTLES Original packs. Original Flavor packs featuring Lime will start popping up on shelves in October 2021 with national roll-out over the next few months.
“It’s no secret that Lime has been a hot topic for SKITTLES fans since we replaced them with Green Apple back in 2013. Green Apple has had a good run, but the fans have spoken and it’s time for Lime to return to the rainbow,” said Fernando Rodrigues, Mars Wrigley Senior Brand Manager. “What better way to bring better moments to our loyal fans, than with the return of the most asked about flavor? The joy of Lime can’t be denied anymore. It is back. This time for good.”
Finallyyyyyyy Lime Skittles HAVE COME BACK TO THE ORIGINAL RED PACK!!! That may be a dated reference but it feels right considering the generation that has only known Green Apple as being the green Skittle probably know The Rock as an actor instead of the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. This also isn't technically breaking news since it happened yesterday but I didn’t hear about it since I was busy all day but felt this news was big enough to deserve BREAKING in the headline. News and sports networks keep the breaking graphic up for hours if not days after a major story breaks, so why can’t I as a snack blogger?
Anyway like the press release with the unnecessary SKITTLES in all CAPS said, there has long been a civil war amongst candy enthusiasts about which flavor deserved the honor of being a green Skittle. I personally have always been a staunch supporter of lime not because I hate change (which I do) or think green apple in a gimmicky flavor (which I do because just it should just be called "apple). But because whenever I wanted to throw a handful of Skittles in my mouth and taste the rainbow™, green apple would always overpower that confectionary fruit salad.
Lime was never and will never be the star of the show or even the sidekick of the show. He was the wacky neighbor who would occasionally show up to play his part as a role player which allowed everything else to work. Skittles tried to replace that role player with one that had a buzzier name and everything fell apart once the balance was thrown off. Lest we forget the most important rule of life.
Which is why it's great to see those mamalukes at Mars have righted their egregious wrong and brought balance to the rainbow of flavor after a supposed food connoisseur like Large outed himself as being a foodie that was clearly born without tastebuds.
