The NFL Just Announced The Super Bowl Halftime Show Will Feature Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, And Kendrick Lamar
I think we have to do a wellness check on Roger Goodell because I am still shocked this just happened. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loooooove that lineup and know they are going to crush the halftime show. But I am so used to fans asking for the obvious local musicians to play a Super Bowl show only for the NFL to give us the Black Eyed Peas or some shit (No offense to the Black Eyed Peas, who were absolute staples to countless weddings I attended in the early 2010s). However what Snoop wants, Snoop gets.
I guess I understand Snoop since he's become the hip hop version of Willie Nelson, gracefully aging as a beloved stoner. Nobody could really have a problem with Mary J. Blige. Kendrick Lamar has been a part of pop culture for a while now. And Dre is the orchestrator of this whole damn thing. However, Eminem was getting cancelled for shit before cancelling was even a thing back in the 2000s even though it was flat out LAWLESS in the pop culture streets. I can't wait until the angry internet mob rediscovers some of Marshall Mathers' shit from back in the day and listens to it through a 2021 lens. Em's chances of actually making it to the Super Bowl are about the same as my Giants.
As for the show, fingers crossed we get "Fuck Wit Dre Day" and "Bitch Please". Okay, I'm not gonna hold my breath for those two. Instead I'll take some of the performances I saw at the best live concert I've ever been to at Up In Smoke 20(!!!) years ago that featured Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Ice Cube, Warren G, and Nate Dogg.
I cannot recommend watching that video enough if you have the time
Fuck, I randomly remember Nate Dogg is dead every few months and get really sad. Hopefully these guys blow the roof off the building at the Super Bowl in his honor or at least don't confuse the shit out of everybody like The Weeknd did.
You know what? Let's throw some of these guys albums at the end of the blog since you can listen to the from front to end.
