The Brennisance Continues! Brendan Fraser Has Been Cast In Batgirl

Brendan Fraser is set to join Leslie Grace in Warner Bros and DC Films’ Batgirl. Although not confirmed, sources believe Fraser would play the supervillain Firefly in the pic. Jacob Scipio also recently joined the cast, with Grace on board to play Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are helming.

The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer. Christina Hodson penned the script with Kristin Burr producing.

While plot details are under wraps, it is known that Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, will be the character behind the cape in this version. Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane.

I'm not super familiar with Firefly, but he is apparently a pyromaniac villain who is horrifically scarred by burns. Here is how the character was portrayed in Gotham.

I love this for Brendan, but I also hope he doesn't get the Doom Patrol treatment where he doesn't get to show his beautiful face. And in case you didn't know, this is just one stop on the Brendan Fraser renaissance train. Recently, he has gotten back into the swing of things and I couldn't be happier for him. He was in the HBO Max movie "No Sudden Move" and will star as a 400lbs man in an upcoming A24 movie. He was also cast in Scorsese's next movie which is HUGE for our boy. Fraser is an absolute king of kings who has dealt with a lot of shit over the last decade plus. He was sexually assaulted by the former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and later blacklisted, then went through a divorce and forced to pay an obscene alimony. But NOBODY is more back than he is right now.

By the way, that was a mean ass thumbnail pic that Deadline chose for him. FOR SHAME!
