Pray For The NBA: Derrick Rose Is Trying To 'Tom Brady This Thing'
Oh fuck yeah. We need to talk about Derrick Rose because his story is pretty outrageous. The guy was the youngest MVP of all time. Suffered that brutal knee injury, looked like he was going to be out of the league. Instead he bounces back, completely changes his game and has turned into the perfect 6th man for the Knicks. He still attacks the rim. He still plays insane. But he's become a way better shooter. The best he ever shot from three was 37% in 2018-19 with the Wolves. He shot 41% last year for the Knicks and this year he's already at 54% on over 4 attempts per game. Now he's clearly not going to keep shooting at that ridiculous number. But he's never looked to shoot more. He's never looked this comfortable shooting the ball. The man is adjusting to the times. That deserves chants.
He's turned into a mentor for Immanuel Quickley. He'll do the same for Grimes and McBride. He went to Thibs and told him to start Kemba and that he wanted to come off the bench. The fact that a former MVP and a guy who was on the fast track to being an all-time great is willing to change his game and understand his role is something. That's how you Tom Brady this shit. He's beloved as a Knick. There's a different kind of energy when he comes into the game. He still gets after you defensively. He pushes tempo. He's not afraid to go flying into the stands, we saw that last night.
So if he wants to Tom Brady it, let's Tom Brady this shit. Keep signing him to these 2-year deals. Keep letting him do his thing off the bench. I don't even care how many Knicks blogs we get. This team is fun. This team is good. This team is what we've been waiting for. Yeah, they aren't an elite team. But they play their asses off and win games. That matters.
