Darius Rucker's Stories About The Early Days Of Hootie & The Blowfish Will Warm Your Heart

So last week Bussin' With The Boys had Darius Rucker on the bus for a nice little podcast and Will Compton was nice enough to invite me on to be Taylor Lewan for the day knowing I'm a huge Hootie & The Blowfish fan. I don't wanna get ahead of myself right now but it was quite literally up there for the coolest hour of my life due to just getting to bro down for an hour with the man himself. I've often said Darius is a top person for me to meet not only due to Hootie & The Blowfish being one of my favorite bands, but also just the nature of his whole career is simply amazing.

And the interview DID NOT disappoint. We touched on everything from how Hootie started to Darius becoming one of the biggest country stars in the world to the saddest college sports argument you're ever gonna hear to Post Malone covering 'Only Wanna Be With You'. 2 moments that absolutely stuck out to me we're when he told the story of Hootie playing Letterman & the other being playing Frank Sinatra's 80th birthday. Just 2 moments in your life that the vibes would be beyond immaculate in.

Back in the 90's playing a talk show like Letterman basically meant you made it or you were going to make it since that was such a massive platform for people to see you with no internet. Just the idea of magically finding out you're playing Letterman on a Tuesday to being in New York to perform that very Friday followed by DIRECTLY flying privately down to your hometown show in Columbia, South Carolina really is as good as it gets. That of course led to their blowup as the biggest band in the world which led to my question to Darius asking if he could go back for a month or so to those times, even before they did Letterman, would he to which he answered resoundingly yes. If that doesn't warm the cockles of your heart then I don't know what will.

And finally that Frank Sinatra story! Oh my word that Frank Sinatra story. Can you simply imagine being called over by the man himself with a compliment at his 80th birthday when you have people like Don Rickles in the fucking room as well? The coolness of that is unmatched.

So you gotta give this interview a listen. It was so much damn fun. Thank you!!
