Jackson State Wins the SWAC for the First Time Since 2007 After Coach Prime Brought in Secret Weapon Brittany Renner
It took Deion Sanders just two seasons — the first of which was a spring season which started a few months after his hiring — to win Jackson State its first SWAC championship since 2007. The Tigers capped off an 11-1 season with a 27-10 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday. JSU will cap off its season by playing MEAC champion South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta on December 18.
It's been an unbelievable turnaround by Coach Prime at a program which had gone just 18-37 in the five seasons before he arrived on campus. But his secret weapon for this conference title may have been the one and only Brittany Renner.
Look, I'm not trying to take any credit whatsoever away from any of those kids or Coach Prime for all the work they put in to win a conference championship and a bid in the Celebration Bowl. But I think Coach knew when to break out the big guns to get the boys buzzing. I guarantee you Prairie View A&M didn't have anything resembling that in its team meeting on Thursday.
So congrats to everyone involved with Jackson State football, from Coach Prime and Shedeur Sanders to Dana Beers and Brittany Renner. Everyone had a hand in this.
