Man Sentenced To Three Years In Jail For Using Facial Recognition To Steal Money From His Girlfriend While She Slept

Source -A Chinese man has been jailed for stealing $23,500 from his ex-girlfriend’s bank account by pulling up her eyelids while she was sleeping to activate her phone’s facial recognition feature.

The 28-year-old man, only identified by his surname Huang, was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in Nanning in southern China over the elaborate theft, the Global Times reported.

Huang was convicted of using his ex-girlfriend’s fingerprints to unlock her phone while she slept in her apartment in December last year. He then pulled up her eyelids to activate facial recognition so he could access her online banking app, according to authorities.

Huang transferred the equivalent of $23,500 out of his ex-girlfriend’s cash and line-of-credit accounts. The ex-girlfriend went to police as soon as she noticed the missing money.

Police later determined it had been transferred by Huang.

First of all, this woman must be the world's soundest sleeper if she didn't wake up when Huang was peeling her eyelids back. I mean how does that work? Did he drug her?

His ex-girlfriend had told authorities Huang had asked if he could meet her so they could discuss how would pay back $9,400 that he borrowed from her when they were dating.

When he arrived, the ex-girlfriend said Huang offered to cook and get her medicine because she was sick.he victim said she fell asleep after taking the medicine.

Alright well for the sake of the story let's pretend that never happened. I've always said that if I could get away with a crime, I would. Not murder or assault or anything bad - victimless crimes. Crimes that have the ability to make me wealthy beyond my wildest dreams without hurting other people. Which is why I understand where Huang is coming from. He probably hated his girlfriend to the point where didn't consider her human. To him, she was simply an orifice with a bank account. So why not peel the eyelids back and skim a little off the top? It was only what? $23k? Half of it was in credit too so it's not even her money. The point I'm trying to make is that three years in a Chinese prison for a little bank fraud seems like a bit much. Yes they had an ugly break up and yes it was highly illegal, but let's not ruin the guys life over it. Make him pay the money back give him like a year. Then again, the "drugging" aspect takes things to a whole new level. I don't know. I'm just glad the girl is alright and the guy is paying for his crime. Merry Chirstmas. Have a great Monday, friends.
