George R.R. Martin Has Seen A Rough Cut Of The First Episode Of "House Of The Dragon" And He LOVED It
Alright, I know what the last two seasons of Game of Thrones did to all of our souls. In fact, I think you can make a case that if those two seasons were done right or not at all, the world would be a much better place on some butterfly effect shit. No coronavirus. People doing something other than spending every waking moment arguing online. When Game of Thrones was thriving, so was the world.
Then everything went to shit right around the time the show did and we are here a few days into 2022 already praying 2023 is when The Suck is over. Luckily, George R.R. Martin gave us a glimmer of hope after he watched a rough draft of the upcoming Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon and he wrote about how much he liked it on his blog.
I am anticipating HOUSE OF THE DRAGON pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book). Also … mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone… I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy.
Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with GAME OF THRONES, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them. (Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling).
I think the Targaryens are in very good hands.
Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed.
LET'S COOK WITH SOME DRACARYS FIRE FLAMES, GEORGIE!!! Again, I realize everything that happened in seasons 7 and 8. But when that silly son of a bitch actually finishes his books, they are turned into hits. It's that simple. The 9 PM Sunday slot on HBO is like batting cleanup in the Yankees lineup. You don't get that spot unless you drop bombs.
Thrones may have lost its way once Benioff & Weiss had no map to follow, but that was after they put up Babe Ruth numbers for six full seasons. Then once they ran out of source material, the man in the turtle hat started grumbling about how he didn't like the way the show was progressing (Again, likely because he didn't finish the GODDAMN BOOKS) and everything fell off a cliff like when all those hot dogs, late nights, and loose women caught up with George Herman Ruth. I highlighted what those Thrones seasons look like in baseball numbers.
If George R.R. Martin is giving his blessing on what the show looks like and HBO is willing to open their wallets to buy our love back, I'm going to be excited. This may be because my NFL team is a roaring dumpster fire blazing brighter than King's Landing after Dany T went Mad Queen and I need something to believe in. But so far, I have no reason to believe a show with George R.R. Martin's approval and HBO's war chest is going to be anything but spectacular. Especially since it looks like we aren't going to get penny pinching for CGI mythical beasts like we did in Thrones.
