The Jamaican Bobsled Team Qualified For The 2022 Olympics, Get Those Lucky Eggs Ready

NBC Sports - Jamaica grabbed the final spot in the 28-sled field in qualification for the Beijing Games, based on international results this season.

Jamaica qualified in three Olympic bobsled events for the first time, also earning the last spot in two-man and a place in the new Olympic event of women’s monobob. It missed a two-woman spot on a tiebreaker but can get in as first alternate if one qualified nation gives up a spot.

...The last time Jamaica had a four-man sled was at the 1998 Nagano Games. That was also the last time the Olympic team had a link to the famed 1998 quartet — brothers Chris and Dudley Stokes. Chris is now the president of Jamaica’s bobsled federation.

First and foremost, let's get the obligatory scenes from Cool Runnings.

Jamaican bobsled teams have been relatively common at the Olympics ever since that first team that inspired "Cool Runnings" in 1988. But it's typically been two-man teams in every Olympics from 1988 to 2002, and then once again in 2014. There's was also a two-woman team that competed at the 2018 games in Pyeongchang. But for the first time since 1998, there will be a four-man Jamaican bobsled team, along with a two-man team and a two-woman team. Is Jamaica officially the hotspot for international bobsleigh? You bet your sweet ass it is.

Honestly this news couldn't have come at a better time. I'm still a little down in the dumps over the fact that the NHL won't be sending players to the Olympics this year. I'm a huge winter Olympics guy so there's still plenty of draw to these games. Curling is awesome, Mikaela Shiffrin is the GOAT for alpine skiing, and the women's hockey tournament will be great once we get to the inevitable gold medal matchup between USA and Canada. But still, I needed something to fill in that void that would be left with a JV men's hockey tournament. Now we have it.

If you're not waking up in the middle of the night to cheer on the Jamaican bobsled teams at the Olympics next month then what in the actual frick are you doing with your life? Jamaica's best finish in the four-man was 14th in 1994. I don't know dick about bobsleigh but I'm willing to call a top 10 finish this year. The Germans won gold at the 2018 Olympics. It also looks like the Germans won 6 out of the last 7 bobsleigh world championships. But the Jamaicans are coming for that ass.
