The Trailer For 'Jurassic World: Dominion' Gave Me Hope It Might Actually Be Good
The film is set about four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, in which genetically engineered dinosaurs were auctioned to companies around the world while others were released on the U.S. mainland. The story takes place around the world and depicts humans living with dinosaurs.
Am I sucker, fool and moron for thinking this trailer was actually pretty good? Possibly, but I stand by that evaluation. They showed us Dinos out in the real world, the effects looked solid and, most importantly, we had the nostalgia bump of seeing Sattler and Grant together again. I don't feel like they really established what the plan of the movie is going to be other than survival, but I'd rather it stay a mystery anyway to be honest. My only gripe is that, despite it's title, there are literally no minions involved from what I can see…
We actually talked to BD Wong, who has played the scientist behind the revived dinos since the OG Jurassic Park, about the movie a while back. Here is what he had to say:
To be honest, I haven't been thrilled with this reboot of Jurassic Park. I thought Jurassic World was pretty solid, but also very forgettable. Stop and think about this: if you didn't see that cast list above, would you be able to name a single character from Jurassic World? I doubt it. Fallen Kingdom was a massive disappointment, ending on one of the dumbest notes I can ever remember.
The counterargument is that these are popcorn movies, right? They're not supposed to be a high art form. Not to mention, the original Jurassic Park trilogy is far from untouchable. It's 2 disappointments carried on the shoulders of one of the greatest blockbusters of all time
None of those are good enough excuses for making a sub-standard movie. Give us some good dino action, don't complicate the story with sub-plots and don't run over long. That is the formula for success for this movie.
This hits theaters July 10th.
