Calvin Ridley Was Gambling on NFL Games When He Left the Falcons and Is Suspended Indefinitely, at Least for the Entire 2022 Season
I don't even know what to say about this team anymore, man. When I was a kid, the best player in franchise history went to federal prison for being involved in a dogfighting ring. Now arguably the best player on the team — technically — is suspended for at least a season for gambling on NFL games after he left the team mid-season for mental health reasons.
How does this even happen? This is the ONE THING you know you can't do for any reason ever. I'm genuinely at a loss for anything to say. It's so stupid and unbelievable, it has put my mind in a pretzel.
The best part is Ridley seemingly did this on a legitimate sportsbook, as Andrew Siciliano said he placed bets on his cell phone. Did this guy actually sign up using his real name and social security number as an active NFL player?!
Man, how did they ever catch this guy?!
Here's the kicker and Falcons Moment of the Week as it relates to this situation: Atlanta apparently received calls in recent weeks about Ridley and declined to engage in trade talks knowing this was coming.
This is why we're a joke. Belichick would have had this guy shipped to Minnesota for a fourth round pick and a bag of footballs the second he found out about this shit.
I truly can't believe this. There will never be a story too ridiculous for the Atlanta Falcons. It's just continuous new lows for the rest of time.
In related news, Ridley sent yesterday what is now up there with the greatest tweets of all-time:
I guess we'll find out!
Edit: Wait, he just sent an even better one:
Uhhhh … not the response I would have gone with! Some would argue gambling on games at all as an active player and jeopardizing your entire career is a bit of a problem, but to each their own, I suppose!
This guy, man.
