Phil Collins Performed For The Last Time This Weekend And I'm Sad
Dailymail - Phil Collins bade an emotional farewell to Genesis fans alongside bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks in London on Saturday - as the iconic band played their final ever concert.
London's 02 provided the backdrop for the band's last show on their The Last Domino? Tour - with frail frontman Phil, 71, telling the crowd he will now have to get a real job.
Phil, who performed the show sitting down due to suffering from a number of different health conditions in recent years, later joined Mike, 71, and Tony, 72 for a standing ovation.
Phil told the crowd 'It's the last stop of our tour, and it's the last show for Genesis. After tonight we all have to get real jobs.'
The three London concerts were set to take place at the end of last year but had to be rescheduled due to positive Covid 19 tests within the band, which has been touring for the first time in 14 years,
Collins, who has a history with back problems, has been sitting down for all the concerts on the tour and his son, Nic Collins, 20, has stepped in for him on drums.
Though Collins' exact medical condition has never really been discussed publicly, you can tell by looking at him that he's not doing too well.
He had had a series of fractures over the years and in 2015 underwent back surgery which left him with nerve damage. In 2017 he fell, which resulted in him using a cane to assist with walking.
People get old, that's life. It sucks but its how its always gone, and unless Elon Musk and the overlords figure out a way to bionically engineer our bodies to live forever, the way it will always go.
It doesn't mean its not really sad to watch.
And selfishly feel bad because you never got to witness a legendary performer like Phil Collins play live.
One of the biggest fuck ups I've ever made happened back in 2017 when Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers came to play at Wrigley Field.
It was July 4th weekend and the weather was unreal.
I had field seats with some friends and couldn't wait to finally see Petty live for the first time.
Earlier that day it began getting overcast and about two hours before the show it started downpouring.
The forecast showed rain throughout the rest of the night and like a little bitch boy I thought to myself that I didn't feel like sitting in the GA field section getting rained on all night.
So I offered the tickets to my brother in law and sister and they quickly said yes.
About half an hour into Petty's set I think the rain stopped in Wrigleyville.
Shortly after that I got a text from them that they were watching one of the best concerts ever.
I felt like a schmuck.
Not long after that show, in October, Petty sadly passed away.
My regret multiplied off the charts.
I made a vow to myself that anytime I had the opportunity to see a performance live, of an act or group that may not be around much longer, I will do whatever it takes to see them.
Since then I've nailed a few (The Who and Fleetwood Mac) and will finally get to see Motley Cru and Def Leppard this summer and couldn't be more pumped.
Phil Collins is an institution. He was the 1980s.
Not just because he helped set the soundtrack with his music-
But because he was also one of the best recurring characters on THE tv show of the 80s, Miami Vice.
If you got to see Genesis live, or you got to be at one of these last shows, I'm extremely jealous of you.
p.s.- The media is reporting Peter Gabriel no-showed for the shows but they're wrong.
He was hanging out backstage.
Which is awesome and all but would it have killed the guy to pick up a mic for just one song?
