Yesterday Was All The Proof You Need That There's Nothing Better In The World Than Being A Philly Sports Fan
The Phillies had a chance to sweep the Rockies at home in the afternoon. The Sixers had a chance to close out the series in Toronto and avoid an embarrassing trip back home for a game 7 after getting out to a 3-0 series lead. The Eagles had two 1st round picks to work with in the Draft.
Now we've seen this movie before. I'm sure there are some folks out there who always just expect the worst out of life. Everything negative all the time. They'd probably expect the Phillies bats to go ice cold and for Zack Wheeler to get shelled. They'd probably expect James Harden to forget how to play basketball and for Doc Rivers to go for the historic and be the first coach to lead his team to blowing a 3-0 series lead. They'd probably expect Howie Roseman to draft some speedy receiver who can't catch out of a conference that nobody ever heard of and then maybe another QB that analysts didn't even realize was in the draft.
But this is Philadelphia. The City of Champions. The doers of good and the makers of excellence. So what happened?

4 straight games with the Phillies offense scoring 7 or more runs. Turns out you don't need to worry about pitching when your bats just mash the shit out of every ball thrown their way.
The Sixers were dangerously close to being the biggest joke in the league, but Joel said enough is enough. Talk to 'em, Joe.
And then Howie Roseman. Howwwwwiiiiieeeee. There's nothing I love more than a man who is big enough to admit his own shortcomings. Howie Roseman knows he can't draft receivers for shit. The Reagor and Arcega-Whiteside picks will haunt him forever. But here's a fun fact--you don't have to draft great receivers if you can just trade your draft picks for ones who have proven themselves already. Why gamble on someone with the 18th pick when you can just get a guy who already has multiple 1000 yard seasons, a Pro Bowler, and still only 24-years-old? Seems pretty simple to me.
Oh and the best part of it all is that the Flyers season finally, mercifully comes to an end tonight against Ottawa, so we won't even have to think about those losers again for another 5-6 months. Probably the biggest win of them all right there.
