The First Teaser For The Daniel Radcliffe Weird Al Movie Looks Weird As Hell

The Roku Original film will star Daniel Radcliffe in the titular role of “Weird Al” Yankovic. The biopic holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like “Eat It” and “Like a Surgeon” to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story takes audiences on a truly unbelievable journey through Yankovic’s life and career, from gifted child prodigy to the greatest musical legend of all time.

ICYMI, here are my full thoughts on the casting from when it was announced.

This project is really interesting to me because #1. Weird Al being played by Daniel Radcliffe still makes no sense to me and #2 I don't know of any Roku originals. Despite those hesitations, I am actually really damn excited for this! Weird Al is a fascinating, wholesome and extremely likable guy. Getting to learn more about his rise to fame and how he handled it across the years is an idea I find really cool. As far as Radcliffe goes, he may not look much like Weird Al but he is definitely a weird guy. I'm looking forward to seeing his portrayal and more of how his wig.

Something that also calms my nerves is Weird Al's involvement. He co-wrote the story and is, according to social media at least, very excited to watch it. His quotes on the project are also very funny.

“When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule,” Yankovic says in a press release, adding that he is “absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

This was co-written and directed by Eric Appel, who previously directed Silicon Valley, Son of Zorn, Brooklyn 99, New Girl and more. This movie is coming to the Roku channel later this year.
