Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey are Talking Seriously About Fighting Each Other

Rather than find myself out of my depth on Mixed Martial Arts, I'll leave it to others to decide whether Gina Carano or Ronda Rousey is the best female MMA fighter of all time. Or if someone else is.

Instead I'll point out a fact not in dispute. They are the two biggest female crossover stars the sport has ever had. Breakout stars that sold their sport on a million magazine covers, talk show appearances and acting roles.

Carano got a starring vehicle in the criminally underappreciate action flick Haywire, then the megahit Deadpool and a recurring role in The Mandalorian, before she ran afoul of Disney's social media policies and got fired. Now she's making movies for conservative site The Daily Wire.

Rousey also launched into the pop culture stratosphere, landing spots in established franchises like Fast and the Furious, The Expendables, Entourage and the WWE. As well as bantering about anal sex with her husband in front of the world. Though she's said she's done with wrestling, she recently said she's all about stepping back into the ring. On one condition.

Post Wrestling- She guest appeared on episode 71 of The Kurt Angle Show and Angle’s co-host asked if there’s a chance she’ll get back into the octagon. Rousey said she’d only come back for one person and that is Gina Carano, who has not fought since 2009. …

"There’s only one person. There’s only one person I would come back for.

"I mean, I’ve said it a million times. It’s not like it’s something new but, for Gina man. Gina Carano, she’s the reason why I got into fighting, she’s the reason why I knew it was a possibility. I will always be forever grateful… and if she ever was like, ‘Ronda, I wanna fight you tomorrow at 205 pounds,’ like whatever the hell she’d want — I’m not saying she’s 205 pounds — if she wanted to come into my backyard and do the Rocky thing or, you know, ding, ding and we just do it in the backyard, I don’t care. I will fight Gina wherever she wants and if she doesn’t want to forever, leave [that there]. It’s a respect thing, not like a, ‘F*ck you. I’m coming to get you.’ It’s just like, hey, if you ever wanna pull that card out, it’s there. I love her. Thank you Gina for everything you’ve done."

Then Carano was asked if she was interested. Coincidentally enough, she is. Also on one condition. Which happens to fit very nicely into Rousey's only condition:

Which she then proceeded to echo to Joe Rogan today. The whole clip is interesting, as she talks about how close she came to squaring off with Rousey before. But she says Dana White went public with the news way before she was ready to make it official, they had a falling out, but have patched things up. And if you skip to the 3:45 mark, you'll hear her say how ready she is to start training for this one. Even at the age of 40:

Carano: "I can't even still say that I wouldn't."

Rogan: "You know that Ronda said you're the one."

GC: "I know. And honestly, I feel that she's the one as well. If I wanted to."

JR: "Let's go, ladies! Let's fucking go!"

Indeed.

I mean, who wouldn't be up for this? Like they say, this is the final shot for both of them. Carano is 40, Rousey will be 35 by the time a fight could be arranged. Two giants of the fight game, getting in shape for one last showdown. Born not out of some desperate need for attention. Or to validate their already legendary careers. Nor out of money, because they're both successful in their post-MMA lives. (Though there will be dump trucks filled with it for everyone involved.) Just two of the best there ever was, facing off in the middle of town to decide once and for all which was the better gunslinger. A battle of honor fought out of mutual respect. Damn, it would be the biggest event the sport has ever known.

Granted I'd prefer they do it as a Rough 'N Rowdy event ("Rough "N Rousey"? I'll work on it), but I'll take what we can get. Their acting careers will still be there when it's over. Let's sign the papers, line up the trainers, rent out the gyms and get started on this five minutes ago. America doesn't want this. America needs it. Let's fucking go, ladies.
