The Most Delusional Statement In College Football: Vandy's Coach Says 'In Time' They'll Be The Best Program In The Country
Uhh, so this is Clark Lea. You may not know him because he coaches football for Vanderbilt. You also might know him because he's one of the most boring humans in the game of football. This dude can put anyone to sleep by talking. That's probably why this comment flew under the radar a bit yesterday during Media Day.
Vanderbilt - the best team in the country. Hey, I get having unrealistic expectations. I get trying to boost up your guys and your program. But the man said best team in the country. They aren't even the best team in their state. They aren't even a top-3 team in their state.
I do appreciate that he gave himself an out though. 'In time.' No one knows how long that is! He could be talking about next year, he could be talking about 100 years from now. This guy is a football guy though. Last year he made some waves by stripping every single player of their number.
That really helped get to 2-10 last year. At least they held Georgia to just 62 points. Moral victories folks.
The fact is simple. Vandy is never going to be the best team in the country. They'll never have that little run that Mississippi State had to get to No. 1 in the country. They had their chance with Jay Cutler. They aren't getting that type of quarterback again. They aren't recruiting decent enough to compete.
