The Six BEST Movies Of The 2000's (According To Me)

6. The Departed - 99/100 - Netflix, HBO Max

To take down South Boston's Irish Mafia, the police send in one of their own to infiltrate the underworld, not realizing the syndicate has done likewise. While an undercover cop curries favor with the mob kingpin, a career criminal rises through the police ranks. But both sides soon discover there's a mole among them.

For my money's worth, this is Scorsese's #2 movie behind Goodfellas. It has arguably the most stacked cast of the decade performing at the top of their respective games in a perfect crime story. A factor that I think goes under-appreciated as well is the music. What a god damn awesome soundtrack! Perfectly compliments everything about the movie.

5. City of God - 100/100 - HBO Max

Cidade de Deus is a shantytown that started during the 1960s and became one of Rio de Janeiro’s most dangerous places in the beginning of the 1980s. To tell the story of this place, the movie describes the life of various characters, all seen by the point of view of the narrator, Buscapé. Buscapé was raised in a very violent environment. Despite the feeling that all odds were against him, he finds out that life can be seen with other eyes…

This is arguably the best foreign movie ever made. It crushes your heart while also delivering some serious suspense, laughs and romance. Like you see above, it is one of my few movies to have a perfect 100/100 so I would highly reccomend giving it a try. Especially since it is probably the only one on this list that most of you may not have seen.

4. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers  - 100/100 - HBO Max

Frodo and Sam are trekking to Mordor to destroy the One Ring of Power while Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn search for the orc-captured Merry and Pippin. All along, nefarious wizard Saruman awaits the Fellowship members at the Orthanc Tower in Isengard.

Part 2 of the greatest trilogy ever filmed has a well deserving spot on this list. Incredible action with CGI/practical effects that are better than most movies that come out today, great acting across the board and a phenomenal story. I think the battle of Helms Deep holds up against any battle in any movie in history.

3. Inglorious Basterds - 100/100 - TNT

In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds, lead by Lt. Aldo Raine soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.

One of the most perfect things about this perfect movie is the opening. 20 minutes of exceptional dialogue, suspense and acting. The rest of the movie? Pretty fucking good as well. The whole cast crushes what is the best Tarantino movie in my opinion.

P.S. I hung up a poster of this in my hallway and the lady was none too pleased about the swastika in the logo.

2. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - 100/100 - HBO Max

Aragorn is revealed as the heir to the ancient kings as he, Gandalf and the other members of the broken fellowship struggle to save Gondor from Sauron's forces. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam take the ring closer to the heart of Mordor, the dark lord's realm.

The CONCLUSION of the greatest trilogy of all time is well deserving of the #2 spot on the list. Fantastic battles and a conclusion that lives up to the insane hype and expectations the previous two movies laid out.

1. No Country For Old Men - 100/100 - HBO Max

Llewelyn Moss stumbles upon dead bodies, $2 million and a hoard of heroin in a Texas desert, but methodical killer Anton Chigurh comes looking for it, with local sheriff Ed Tom Bell hot on his trail. The roles of prey and predator blur as the violent pursuit of money and justice collide.

This is my king of kings when it comes to movies. The perfect neo-western featuring one of the greatest villain performances of all time from Javier Bardem. Perfect pace, a great sense of creeping dread throughout the movie, excellent dialogue and some crazy shootouts. I won't fault others for not having it this high, but I have a love for this one that will never fade.
