Julio Jones Has His Eyes On The Prize, Wisely Signs With Buccaneers
The Bucs signing Julio Jones, one of the greatest Wide Receivers of all-time to a 1-year deal is a clear sign the Buccaneers are considered one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Jones has been lights out since he got into the league, but injuries have gotten the better of him the past two seasons, limiting him to just 19 games. Jones had 6-straight 1,300+ yard seasons from 2014-2019 highlighted by a 136 catch 1,871 8 TD season in 2015. In the 2016 season, he had another big year that ended in a Super Bowl run that fell just short. Jones, who will one day be a Hall-of-Famer, will be best remembered for this grab in the big game:
What this means for this season is to be determined. The Buccaneers have a LOADED Wide Receiver room with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Russell Gage, but Godwin is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in November, and there have been reports Gage has struggled to pick up the playbook early on.
While Godwin may be ready in September or even the start of the season and Gage may also produce big numbers, this signing on the eve of vets kicking off training camp signals the Bucs feel like they an get better with Julio. Based on last season's tape, I would tend to agree.
Looking forward to seeing him actually suit up in pewter and red! Go Bucs!
