Reviews Are Already Pouring In For "House Of The Dragon", With One Site Saying It's Already Better Than Game Of Thrones AND Breaking Bad
Yahoo- With less than a month to go before the show premieres on HBO Max, Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon hosted a preview screening of its pilot episode for members of the media and the initial reviews are looking great. Many of the original show's fans have their doubts about the new prequel following the anti-climatic ending to Game of Thrones, but it now seems like HBO and George R. R. Martin have managed to move past that hiccup and create a series that's even better than its predecessor. Collider's editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub said "I did not like the last season of Game of Thrones. At all. But I'll admit the series premiere of House of the Dragon is really well done and I'll continue watching," while Indiewire called it "better than GoT & Breaking Bad."
Talk about sensationalist, clickbait garbage from Yahoo. I know it's sensationalist because I do the same shit with my headlines. It's cool when I do it because I'm all about the pageviewz, but when I am the victim of it? GTFO.
As far as I can tell, those who have had early access to the show have ONLY seen the series premier, George RR Martin included. That may have changed over the last few weeks as we inch closer to the show's premier on 8/21, but how in the flying fuck can you compare a PILOT episode of a series to BREAKING BAD? Breaking Bad is objectively the greatest show in TV history. The one show that was 10/10 start to finish before completely sticking the landing.
Sure, I can get hooked on a show from a pilot or even a trailer. That's what happened to me with Game of Thrones when Ned chopped that yellow belly Night Watch deserter's head off 5 mins into the pilot...
But I'm not yelling "Yep!!! Better than Breaking Bad!!!" or anything crazy like that.
Will I watch House of the Dragon? Yes. 100%. Do I have tempered expectations? Also yes, 100%. Stop me if you've heard this before, but the last season of Thrones was so bad that we have no choice but to go into House of the Dragon with a small amount of hesitation. On the flip side, the first 5-6 seasons were so good that we also have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it does wind up being the GOAT. Until then, Walt, Jesse, Saul, Gus, Mike, and Hank all reign supreme.
Comparing one episode of a spinoff to the GOAT? Please. Now excuse me while I go and watch a bunch of Breaking Bad "best of" videos for the rest of the morning while I'm supposed to be working. Thanks.
