Dustin Johnson On LIV Golf: “I Was Really Regretting My Decision To Come Here. It’s Just Been Terrible.”
Sarcasm.
Extreme sarcasm.
Sure, I buried the lede in the headline but these pageviews aren't gonna click themselves. The Big J Rapaport might not like that one too much but it's a doggie dog world out there. Gotta get them views up.
Anyways, yeah... of course DJ is having the time of his life over there at LIV. Guy just collected a $18M bonus check for having clinched the regular season points title with an event still yet to be played. That's a bag that, not coincidentally, is the same size as the one Rory took home for winning the Tour Championship. Which was a culmination of 16 events played for Rory. For DJ? Just 6.
That $18M doesn't include the $9,683,500 he's made playing individually in those 6 events, nor does it count his $3M share in team winnings this year either. There's also a team match play bonus coming down the highway in a few weeks and we haven't even touched on the bag he got to sign with LIV in the first place. As if he wasn't already swimming in it as a 24-time PGA Tour winner... guy is basically drowning in the dough.
So yeah... this level of DGAF will probably offend quite a few people and be characterized as insensitive... but DJ is getting exactly what he came for. I said from the jump, DJ is the best possible spokesman for LIV Golf because he doesn't give a flying fuck what others think about him and he's not brash about it either. He shows up, he golfs, he cashes checks, and then he goes fishing. He's not going to do a deep dive into the geopolitical tension in the Middle East, he's just going to keep his head down and golf his ball. And while this is about as much personality as you'll see from DJ and will definitely piss people off, it's really not a deviation from who we know DJ already is.
LIV Golf is getting exactly what they signed up for, and so is DJ.
