This New Challenge System Baseball Is Trying Out For Balls And Strikes Is A No Brainer Move For MLB

For as long as time has stood the strike zone in baseball has been a giant issue. The inconsistency across the sport between home plate umpires is something that'll never get fixed because of the lack of discipline for those that fuck up. You can thank the union for that one, but now it appears maybe, just maybe we've found a solution.

That was….great? Despite the bad call you were able to immediately challenge and have it pop up on the big scoreboard like in tennis to see the instantaneous review. Simple, effective, and efficient. I'm sure it needs a few more tweaks, but for the most part that will work in baseball without question. Obviously you need to limit how many times you can challenge so that the game isn't entirely consumed with these reviews, but for big moments and horrendous calls this seems like a big W. Only people who will hate this are the umpires, but they had decades to get on the same page. Also this will keep their jobs and still allow the human aspect rather than having all balls and strikes being automated.

Been saying for years we should be using tennis-like technology across all sports. First downs and NFL goal line plays should all be immediately reviewable like this to see where the ball exactly is.

The Angel Hernandez games where every call is challenged and overturned will be so ridiculous to watch. Ron Kulpa, C.B. Bucknor, and Ed Hickox all better fix their shit soon before they get publicly embarrassed on a nightly basis.
