Elon's Plan to Absolutely Gut Twitter Seems Like Bad News For Dave's Bot Problem
Twitter has a bot problem. Elon Musk has said as much when he tried to weasel his way out of buying the microblogging site. And Dave aired his grievances this week, saying he's getting "bot'd to death." An investigation (I went to his Twitter page) reveals that there are indeed a boatload of crypto, webcam girl, and traffic barrel bots ratio'ing the shit out of Dave and pretty much everyone else as of late.
Of course, Dave is probably the only one Elon responded to…
In typical Elon fashion, he didn't elaborate on his "plan." But news dropped last night that Elon has told investors he's going to disembowel Twitter when he takes over…
Bloomberg - Elon Musk’s plans for Twitter Inc. involve slashing its staff by nearly 75% in a matter of months, according to documents obtained by the Washington Post.
Musk, whose $44 billion purchase of the social network is set to close by Oct. 28, would reduce Twitter’s staff to just more than 2,000 people, compared with the 7,500 it currently employs, the Post reported, citing Musk’s comments to prospective investors. Musk had told investors he planned to shrink staff in his initial pitch to bankers for funding, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg in April.
What that tells me is that there are going to be at least a few cuts in the department going to war with bot farms and 12-year-old Eastern European hackers. Or at the very least the guys who install the updates on the McAfee antivirus software. Which doesn't bode well for Elon's hopes of eliminating bots.
In my expert opinion (read: I paid for Twitter Blue for 1 month before deciding it was a waste of money), we are wholly fucked for the time being. Bots will continue to ruin the Twitter experience for the foreseeable future. Our best hope is probably just join Parler and hope Kanye has a better plan.
Large, Intern, and Ian chatted about how Elon could get rid of bots on yesterday's episode of The Family Office (since, I know you're reading, Elon… you're welcome).
