Breaking Down Sam Ehlinger's Debut

Looking at Sam Ehlinger's first start shows a lot of promise. His ability to climb the pocket and make completions while on the run are extremely impressive for his first start. He extended plays while being conservative with the football. It was extremely impressive for a guy who was not touted as such a high-draft pick. He had moments where he tried to force the ball to his favorite target Alec Pierce but has had success in doing that resulting in big plays.

I mean, watching the tape back, you could not tell this was his first rookie start. He had 0 super brain-dead plays where he threw a completely boneheaded pick or extended plays too much. His composure in the office was extremely promising, and his scrambling for first downs and green grass was the ability I saw as some of the stuff that would bring success in the NFL. He is conservative with his scrambling ability in that he will take the 4 yards to set up easy 3rd down conversions or to get the first down. He doesn't try to make huge plays when he can take the small ones like Zach Wilson.

The best thing I saw from him was the 2 dimes (one dropped) in the final 22 seconds to try to win the game. He threw 2 amazing strikes, AND THEN when he had to make a crazy flip play to get a completion, but unfortunately, time expired.

THAT IS A GUY THAT WANTS TO WIN FOOTBALL GAMES! THAT GUY IS A COMPETITOR! THAT IS THE GUY AT TEXAS THAT TRIED TO DO EVERYTHING HE COULD TO WIN!

This guy just amps me the fuck up.
