"I Got In A Little Trouble, But That Shit Was Fun" - Michael Irvin Reminisces On His Partying In The Dallas Cowboys 'White House'
On today's Pardon My Take… MICHAEL IRVIN! The Hall of Famer joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter in-studio for today's show to discuss the biggest storylines in the NFL right now, recruiting Deion Sanders to play for the Cowboys, and much more.
Irvin's fun times with the Cowboys were also well-documented. Those 1990s teams were very successful on the field, and they had plenty of fun outside of the gridiron, too. "The White House" in Dallas (not the one in DC) was the spot for partying for Irvin and his teammates and the guys discussed some of the fun that those football players had on today's show. Take a look:
Mr. Cat: I mentioned the White House earlier, do you you ever just like catch yourself daydreaming, being like, "Man, that was fun."
Michael Irvin: (laughs)
Mr. Cat: Yeah, like, that was fun.
Michael Irvin: And I got through it good.
Mr. Cat: Yeah, that was fun, right?
Michael Irvin: Still got a job, everything is working out, damn that was fun.
Mr. Cat: That was fun! That was some fun shit you did.
Michael Irvin: Damn, that was fun. And it brings up a great question because you wonder, what would you do? Would you rather go through life not experiencing any of it and never getting in any trouble and having a straight life that's good? Or, yeah, I got in a little trouble, but that shit was fun.
Mr. Cat: Damn that was fun.
Mr. Commenter: Absolutely.
Mr. Cat: Because I just think about it, you got to, if I were you, I would just like, every now, if someone sees you, you know, in the ESPN office and like, you're just daydreaming, I'd be like, "I think he's probably just thinking about how much fun that was."
Michael Irvin: That was fun. Yeah, we actually, it was crazy, man. But you gotta, man, I was so broke coming out of the ghetto, I couldn't believe they gave me that kind of money, right? I didn't know what to do with it. Yeah, and it was a process to getting to The White House. You know, we started in the hotels.
Mr. Cat: Yeah, you're not crazy. You didn't rent a house for your parties right out of the gate.
Michael Irvin: That was too much of a ruckus. Then we moved to an apartment, and they were complaining. You know what I mean? So, I was like, "Wait a minute, man. You go to a hotel, you're at the nice hotel, and you're going to spend 3-4-500 dollars a night." Right? 4-500 dollars a night… If I did this five times a month, I'm spending $3,000. Somebody else is doing this 4-5 times a month, so why don't I just take $1,000 from a few people, we get us a big, ole mansion? And let's hit it. You know what I mean? And I was trying to, as I said to Jerry [Jones], "Honestly, boss, I was trying to do the wrong thing the right way." Those were my exact words, he just started laughing, he said, "What can I even say to that?"
Mr. Cat: He was probably just pissed he didn't get an invite. When he's like, "You gotta be honest with me, it was like, you should have been honest with me. I should have got the invite."
Michael Irvin: I better not tell the one time he did say that. I better not tell the one time he did say that.
Michael Irvin won three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys, and I can only imagine the amount of partying he did. This "White House" must have been home to some insane, insane stories back in the day.
