Down Bad Early: Virginia QB Brennan Armstrong Gifts Pitt TWO Pick-Sixes In The First 16 Seconds Of The Game
Can't say I've ever seen this happen before, but what a way to start the early wave of college football's Saturday slate!
I don't think "nightmare start" quite does justice to describe what Brennan Armstrong did here. The senior signal-caller threw for 31 TDs and 10 INTs last year, but it's been a much tougher go in 2022. He's now up to 12 picks against only six TD tosses for the season.
That first pick-six is the classic of throwing late to the outside. Although I respect a college QB getting through his progressions, a lollipop throw to the far sideline is never a good idea. The second INT looks like either a misread coverage on Armstrong's part, or just a great play by the defender reading Armstrong's eyes or recognizing the route concept. Impressive runback, too.
The 3-6 Cavaliers need to win out just to be bowl-eligible. Lotta game left, but looks like that ain't gonna happen.
