Jets WR Coach Miles Austin Has Been Suspended For At Least One Year For Betting On Non-NFL Games
Look, we might disagree with it, but when will these guys figure out rules are rules. Yeah, it makes no sense that Miles Austin and Calvin Ridley can be suspended for a year for betting on games while you can *literally* get away with anything else and get a slap on the wrist, but again, those are the rules.
Is it "fair"? No, probably not even a little bit. And we will have this conversation forever, about the discrepancies in suspensions that Goodell hands out. We can talk about Deshaun Watson forever and the length of his suspension vs the length of Miles Austin's, but the NFL really, REALLY does not want people betting.
When in doubt, it's easier to keep the main thing the main thing when it comes to most scenarios in life. I just feel like the NFL's conduct policies are so bass-ackwards in so many ways that any chance you have to highlight the inconsistencies and downright idiocies of their arbitrary, subjective rules — never mind whatever the fuck they consider a "catch" on the field these days, etc. — you have to take it.
Anyway I better be careful here. We're juggling calling out an official NFL employee (albeit in joking fashion), the Deshaun Watson debacle and sports betting all at once.
By the initial reports it seems like Miles Austin was betting responsibly. As you always should. And he wasn't even "undermining the integrity of the game" by wagering on anything pro football-related.
So Roger Goodell, I respectfully ask:
