An Iconic Duo: John Mayer Claims Bill Walton Is The Best Hype Man In The Game, Especially Before Concerts
This is one of those duos that make no sense yet all the sense in the world. Obviously John Mayer with Dead and Company and Bill Walton being the biggest Dead Head out there. But this is also why Walton's alternate broadcast is perfect. Give me little tidbits like this. Did I ever think of John Mayer and Bill Walton hanging out and having a nice off contest? Absolutely not. But now I want to see the two of them out in the wild together.
It's not shocking that Walton is the ultimate hype man. Listen to him call a Pac-12 game one time. He'll petition for even the shittiest of teams to make the NCAA Tournament. He compares players to all-time greats. By players, I mean guys who play like 7 minutes a game. He acts like simple plays are the greatest play in the history of the sport.
Can it be obnoxious? Sure. Do I care? Absolutely not. Bill Walton entertains me and that's what I want from an analyst during a game. Entertain me or teach me something. Walton for sure is an entertainer. Yeah, I don't want him calling my team's Elite Eight game or something like that, but a Thursday night Pac-12 game? Absolutely. It's a staple of college basketball.
I need a Bill Walton compliment. Gotta see what he comes up with because John Mayer is right. He has this cadence, even when just talking about games that you can't top. Just this giant hippie who is as happy as can be hyping you up. Boys being boys.
