Victor Wembanyama Is Now Reportedly 7'5 (!!) With Shoes On And The Scary Part Is He Might Not Be Done Growing

It's been a little while since we've had a Victor Wembanyama blog on the site and don't you worry, he's still doing ridiculous shit on a nightly basis

and the usual tanking suspects have started to get their ducks in a row in the hopes of bringing him into their franchise later this summer. The Rockets have lost 7 straight to fall to 13-45 heading into the break, the Pistons dropped their last 2 to drop to 15-44, and the Spurs, shoutout to the Spurs for taking no chances in the tanking sweepstakes as they've lost 14 straight to fall to 14-45. As you can imagine, those three are leading the Wemby charge

While part of me is hoping there's still a chance the Lakers miss the playoffs and then somehow win the Lottery sending Wembanyama to the Pelicans, I think it's safe to say that dream is probably dead and he's doing to end up a Rocket, Spur, or Piston.

Now if the skillset of Wembanyama wasn't enough to impress you, what if I told you he's doing this all at a newly reported 7'5? No, that was not a typo.

As he waits for the camera to set between bursts of photos, he playfully shoots layups at a nearby hoop, his fingertips coming shockingly close to the rim as he is standing on the floor. The roster indicates he is 7-foot-4, but in shoes, he is actually 7-foot-5, with a wingspan of 8 feet. And it's possible he isn't done growing.

OK, now we're quickly approaching Yao Ming (7'6) territory in terms of height for a guy that has a skillset that looks like young KD. What the actual hell? Yao was the tallest player ever voted into the HOF, but he didn't really have anything close to the skill level or athleticism that it appears Wembanyama possesses. Is it so crazy to suggest that a 19 year old isn't done growing? I don't think so. So how high are we thinking? 7'6? 7'7?

I know these heights sound a little crazy, but I'm buying these reports. Once we saw Wembanyama next to Gobert back in that showcase in October, the whole 7'2 thing didn't exactly pass the smell test. He towers over Gobert and Gobert is a legit 7'1 or 7'2!

When it comes to his position in the NBA, it feels like he's more in the AD camp of really not wanting to play center. I can't imagine this impacts who drafts him, he's obviously going #1, but it is interesting when thinking about potential lineups/roles of guys already on a roster

Wembanyama likes to shoot jumpers. One-legged jumpers, spot-up jumpers -- and he averages four pull-up jumpers a game, which is not something normal for such a massive person. By Collet's own admission, if the rangy and super-talented Batum had tried this 15 years ago, the coach would've pulled him out of the game.

That freedom is something Wembanyama -- a player who now understands the power his talent has afforded him -- has come to prefer.

In 2019, when he was 15, Wembanyama had a lackluster outing in Spain at a showcase event, one of his first in front of major international scouts. He was being played out of his preferred position and wasn't a focal point of the offense. His effort and focus waned badly.

"I had literally zero responsibility. I never had the ball, even at practice. The coach played me at center," Wembanyama recalled. "I was really frustrated even coming to the game. I knew it wasn't going to go well. So it didn't go well."

Sounds pretty clear that not only does Wembanyama not want to play center, he wants to be the focal point of an offense. Again, this isn't that big a deal, all you have to do is watch those highlights again. We're talking about a franchise building block type talent here, you bring him in and then figure everything else out after the fact.

Of course, there's going to be a learning curve once he enters the league, but just imagine what he'll look like once he gets into a real NBA training program. Even if he doesn't put on weight/muscle like KD, he's going to get so much stronger than we're seeing now. Outside of injury, I really can't see how this dude doesn't dominate from the second he steps on the floor. His lateral quickness, his defensive timing, how he seems to be able to read the game and anticipate, all that stuff should translate.

There's a reason Wembanyama is the most hyped rookie since LeBron. I guess the fact that he's also 7'5 and growing is just another one to add to the list.
