Derek Carr Makes The Saints the NFC South Favorite
What a way to start the week! Derek Carr signed with the Saints on Monday and will be the new franchise QB.
For weeks, I have been all about the Saints signing Derek Carr. Is he a HOF QB? Heck no. But look at the alternatives in this free agent market. The Saints had no shot in hell to get Lamar Jackson, Daniel Jones or Geno Smith. Baker Mayfield??? Jimmy G???? OH HELL NAH.
The Saints also own the 29th and 40th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft but that hardly guarantees a successful QB in this draft class.
Can Derek Carr revive his career in New Orleans?
The Saints have a strong offensive line (when healthy) and good playmakers in Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill & Chris Olave. Michael Thomas social media was also showing some signs of life and he might be back after 3 lost seasons due to injury.
There is also a more than likely chance that Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels is an idiot. After all he was the man who took Tim Tebow with the 26th overall pick to be a franchise QB in Denver. Carr did lead the Raiders to the playoffs in 2021 despite all the madness surrounding the Jon Gruden mess.
The Saints defense is still a top 10 unit in the NFL led by Cam Jordan, DeMario Davis, Marshawn Lattimore & Tyran Mathieu. Tanking was NEVER an option with these guys getting paid towards the end of their prime.
And let's be honest….. the rest of the division STINKS. Not a normal stench either. It is really foul.
Who the hell knows who will be playing QB in Carolina, Atlanta or Tampa next year? Tom Brady has finally retired. Carolina might bring Sam Darnold back. Atlanta is currently trying to sell their souls to get Lamar Jackson.
Does Derek Carr make the Saints a Super Bowl contender? Probably not. But could the Saints go 9-8 win the NFC South & host a home playoff game? That seems quite possible.
Carr is going to be extremely motivated to do the damn thing too and is still in his early 30s.
WELCOME TO NEW ORLEANS DEREK CARR! WHO DAT!
