CBB IN 60: Tons Of Drama On Day 1 Of The Sweet 16, UConn Smokes Arkansas, And FAU Knocks Out Tennessee
Today’s CBB in 60 recap and today’s outfit of the day are sponsored by Express!
The second weekend of the NCAA Tournament tipped off last night and the four games did not disappoint. Game of the night? That might be up for debate. That’s how good these games were.
Let’s go 1A-1B. First up: Gonzaga-UCLA. Storylines galore. 17 years to the day, the Bruins came back from down 17… HEARTBREAK CITY, in the words of Gus Johnson. A rematch of the 2021 Final Four game with the Jalen Suggs buzzer beater.
And this year, the Bulldogs won it again, both teams led by double figures in the second half, and Julian Strawther was the hero: a three from the logo to send Gonzaga back to the Elite 8.
Their opponent? No. 4 UConn, who destroyed Arkansas. This was never even a game, folks. Not much to break down, aside from a one-sided affair. That sets up Mark Few vs. Dan Hurley tomorrow night: winner to the Final Four.
In the East: Heart Over Height: that’s the motto for Kansas State’s Markquis Nowell, and he proved why he belongs on this court and this stage once again last night. The Wildcats knocked out Michigan State in our first OT game of the tournament, and the Harlem kid set a March Madness record: 19 assists in a game in his own backyard. Wild.
KSU will take on FAU tomorrow. The No. 9 Owls took out Tennessee thanks to a 20-4 run in the 2nd half. Shoutout Boca Raton. Shoutout South Florida.
