The Masters Merch Store Reportedly Makes About $1 MILLION Per Hour This Weekend, Which Somehow Seems Low
I'd say this is preposterous but it feels low. I've blogged it before but I was lucky enough to go to the Par 3 Tournament last year. We started the day in the merch store. It truly is a wild place. You wait in a line and shuffle around like you're about to get on an amusement park ride. It honestly feels that way. Then you get in and all hell breaks loose.
Last year the first turn you make it the polo section. No brainer to stop at. Even then it becomes every man for himself. I went with 3 other people last year and the moment we made that turn, we never saw each other until we left the store. Remember, no phones. So you can't have anyone scope out what's in there or where they are at or ask them to grab you something. Once you're in line it's a big bar like table, you shuffle up to a spot and when someone comes up to you, you yell out the corresponding number to the shirt and size. They hand it to you and off you go.
Still my biggest regret is not getting a hat last year. I was on tilt. I can fully admit it. I'm a grown man on tilt. Went polo stop, quarter zip stop, t-shirt stop. The hat line was all over the place and at this point I was sweating like Bruce Pearl at a barbecue with Aaron Craft. I honestly didn't even notice the hats. Caught an elbow and kept on moving.
I had no problem dropping a few hundred bucks and could have easily spent more. A couple flags, a couple cups, a couple koozies, some more smaller stuff. Easy $500 without blinking. So, yeah, a million in an hour? I figured it'd be more. There are so many goddamn people there. Everyone wants merch. It's a must get since you can only get some of the stuff there.
