Awful News For The Pirates As O'Neil Cruz Fractures His Ankle On A Collision At Home Plate Leading To The Benches Clearing

Brutalllllll news for the Pirates as they lose their alien of a shortstop to a fractured ankle because of an awkward slide into home. Things were going.....decently for the Buccos too! 6-3, playing some pretty good baseball but this is a kick right in the balls. 

Weird play where the ball coming home was thrown high and Cruz looked like he didn't know what he wanted to do. That left ankle got folded up underneath of him and disaster followed. You could immediately tell he was in pain and that is when White Sox catcher Seby Zavala decided it was a good time to talk some shit to Cruz, while he is squirming around in the dirt in a massive amount of pain. Pretty big douchebag move by Seby if you ask me. 

It was a weird play and maybe Cruz didn't think the ball was coming home until it was too late? It was a late slide on Oneil's part for sure, no doubt about it. But he didn't try and bowl Zavala over, he ended up going in with an awkward slide and that should have been the end of it. Cruz didn't do it intentionally, it was an awkward slide because of the throw, you can see he is in pain and that is the time to start mouthing off? Pretty shitty. Benches cleared after Carlos Santana let Zavala know his thoughts on it and although it didn't escalate anymore, people were fired up. Now Cruz is out for god knows how long and the Pirates just lost their best player. Shitty situation for the yinzers and a pretty dumb move by Zavala. Let's hope Cruz doesn't end up missing too long and we see him back playing ball soon. It was kind of wild watching the benches clear and the Pirates trainer had to basically shield Cruz who was still on the ground, just covering him like he was a child and trying to protect him.
