Our Prayers Have Been Answered! The Brewers Will Now Sell Beer Until The End Of The 8th Inning Thanks To The Pitch Clock
MLB.com- For the first time in memory, the Brewers are permitting fans to buy a cold one beyond the end of the seventh inning.
President of business operations Rick Schlesinger confirmed that the Brewers -- on an experimental basis -- are extending alcohol sales at American Family Field through the end of the eighth inning. The amended policy was implemented for the final two games of the team’s home-opening sweep of the Mets, and Schlesinger said there were no reported problems.
“This is [reflective] of the fact that the games are shorter. From a time perspective, we're probably looking at selling beer for the same amount of time by extending to the eighth inning that we did last year through the seventh,” Schlesinger said. “Obviously, the safety and the conduct of our fans has primacy. We've had no issues, but it's a small sample size and we're going to continue to test it and see if it makes sense. I know a number of other teams are doing the same thing.”
It's a Milwaukee miracle! This has been a topic I've been wondering about, how will the shorter games in baseball mess with the sale of alcohol and beer? It's a legit question we have to ask, teams will notice their beer sales going way down because the games are shorter. I believe all other parks stop selling in the 7th inning, that has always been the rules.
But with games now going under 2 hours or barely over, that cuts off a ton of time for fans to grab a cold one. The Brewers said screw that and will be extending their beer and alcohol sales to the end of the 8th, so our prayers have been heard. I don't think there is anyway you could complete a 9-9-9 challenge with the new pitch clock. It's just too tough, but extending the beer sales will help with that.
Obviously safety comes to mind first when you think about extending the time beer is sold, the Brewers said they actually tested this towards the end of last year and they found no issues with safety or anything that would turn them away from extending the sales. It makes sense because again, teams were going to see their sales on beer and alcohol going down and they were going to do anything they can to make those sales up, Milwaukee just struck first. I expect to see other teams do this as well, it's a no-brainer for teams who were missing out on those extra beer sales. But until then, keep rolling out those 2 hour and 30 min games and let us enjoy a nice cold one. Way to lead from the front, Milwaukee.
