Nick Bosa Warned The Cardinals Against Drafting Kyler Murray Over Him With The Best Quote You Could Possibly Imagine
We now know with the benefit of hindsight that, had the Arizona Cardinals stuck with Josh Rosen at quarterback and not drafted Kyler Murray, it's not like that would've ended well either. But even after making the right choice between those dudes, the Cardinals are categorically fucked six ways to Sunday as one of the NFL's most dysfunctional franchises.
I've given GM Steve Keim a hard time. That man held his job for way too long amid multiple off-field red flags, dubious roster building strategies and whatever other nonsense he was dealing with behind the scenes in the desert. Tough gig. Tough owner to work for. Not a massive tradition of excellence. You can explain some of it away via organizational malpractice.
…But for Keim to sit there. Alongside Kliff Kingsbury. In that pre-draft meeting. And hear Nick Bosa say, right to their faces, that he will haunt them for the rest of his career!? AND NOT TO DRAFT HIM No. 1 overall?? And to watch Bosa live up to every word he said within your very own NFC West division?
Tough look. PS, this is the link to the whole Keim-Cowherd interview if your curiosity is tickled by all this.
Here's Bosa's career so far: Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Super Bowl appearance to kick things off. Torn ACL, missed all but two games the following season. Comes back to have 15.5 sacks and 21 TFL for the NFC runners-up. A full season removed from major injury, Bosa wins Defensive Player of the Year as the sack champion with 18.5.
About to insufferably make it about me for a second. Once again, thank you Nick Bosa.
I love how he's just on this rollicking press tour, dropping little nuggets about the shit show in Arizona. As if he wasn't perhaps the person to blame the most for the team's failings. The Cardinals have one playoff win and three postseason berths since 2010. Not what you'd call "good."
I mean DAMN, Nick Bosa. He preemptively ethered Kingsbury and Keim years before both their tenures imploded He must've seen it coming. I bet Bosa didn't want to go there, or felt he had nothing to lose by being straight-up with the Arizona brass. Absolute savage move and flex.
As the resident Bengals guy, I'm imagining the alternate timeline where the Cards pass on Kyler, draft Bosa, suck terribly in 2019 and set themselves up for the No. 1 overall pick that year. They then use it on Joe Burrow. Or Justin Herbert, if you're a Herbert > Burrow Truther. Either way, safe to say that'd be superior to the Kyler situation, considering he can't stay healthy and has zero playoff wins through four seasons.
In Kyler's defense, it takes a rare, special young man to revive a franchise regardless of the adverse circumstances surrounding him. Joe Brrr be like that.
