Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Were "Nearly Killed" by NYC Paparazzi
Page Six - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “extremely upset and shaken” after being involved in a “near-catastrophic” paparazzi chase in New York City Tuesday night.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who were traveling with Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, were frighteningly pursued by photographers after leaving the Ziegfeld Theater – where the former actress was honored by Gloria Steinem at the Women of Vision Awards – in Manhattan.
The trio left the event in an SUV at around 10 p.m., and were immediately followed by around 12 paparazzi, we’re told.
A source claims that one cameraman hit a car while another almost ran over a NYPD officer during the “near-fatal” chase.
“It started off with 12 paparazzi then ended up with four chasing [Meghan, Harry and Doria],” the insider tells us. “Their security tried their best to lose [photographers].”
Things got so intense that the group had to ditch their SUV and jump into a yellow taxi as a “last-ditch” attempt to evade the photographers.
Because this is Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, who I wouldn't necessarily call the most honest people, my gut reaction was "Ok guys, let's relax with the 'near-death' talk." That seems a little bit extreme. We all know this couple isn't above embellishing a story. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's their calling card.
But then I remembered how paparazzi literally killed Harry's mother in the exact same situation. So does that mean I'm not allowed to call them liars? Would that be uncouth of me to do?
I don't know... that all seems pretty fantastical. The video looked a little chaotic, but mostly just because of the sirens. From my experience that's the regular NYC traffic.
But to give them the benefit of the doubt... when your mother died doing that exact same thing, it probably makes the whole situation a lot scarier. And I wasn't there, so I have no fucking clue what this chase was actually like. But a 2 hour police chase seems like a stretch. Can you even have a police chase through NYC? Did they cover what, 4 miles in 2 hours? Idk guys. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in middle, but something about the phrase "near-catastrophic" seems like an exaggeration.
I will say that as a member of the paparazzi, when you find yourself chasing down members of the Royal Family with your car, knowing full well that what you're doing is what killed the mother of the very person you're chasing... idk maybe it's time to call it a day. Maybe that picture isn't worth vehicular manslaughter.
Paparazzi can make up to $10k for a unique photo. Not sure what they would have gotten (or will get) from this incident, but Prince Harry & Meghan Markel are as hot in the streets as anyone, so I imagine there was a pretty penny to be made.
The more I think about Paparazzi, if you're able to put aside your morals, and feelings, and sense of decency (so if you're a sociopath) it actually sounds like a very fun job. To chase people down like you're in GTA in hopes of snapping a picture worth $10k. Sounds like a blast! I've never tried it, but I did do some investigative work on a former co-worker of mine, and following him around the city was absolutely thrilling. I can only imagine what it must feel like to cash that first $5k check for a candid photo you took of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston kissing outside of a bar. It probably seems so easy. "You mean to tell me I can do this twice a month and make a living?" But then eventually you hit a dry spell, but you have bills to pay so you start doing riskier and riskier things in order to get a picture. And that's how you end up in near-catastrophic police chase with estranged members of the Royal Family.
Whatever. Paparazzi are psychos. Harry and Meghan are liars. Everyone in this story kind of sucks. Thoughts and Prayers to the Royal Couple (or Not Royal Couple I don't know what we're supposed to call them now), during these trying times. Thank god they weren't hurt.
