This Insane Cam Newton Stat Shows Just How Trash The Rest Of Auburn's 2010 National Championship Team Was

Paul Finebaum asked for the craziest college football stats ever and Cole Cubelic certainly delivered with one that is about as ridiculous as you're going to find.

I knew Cam Newton's supporting cast in 2010 was nothing to write home about, but I had no idea it was this barren. Auburn didn't have a single running back or wide receiver record one rushing attempt or catch in an NFL game. That's unfathomable from a team that went 14-0 with an SEC schedule.

For reference, 2017 Alabama — which even lost a game that season despite going on to win the national title — had the following players attempt a pass, rush or record a catch in the NFL: Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones, Damien Harris, Bo Scarbrough, Najee Harris, Josh Jacobs, Brian Robinson, Robert Foster, Cam Sims, Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, Irv Smith Jr., Henry Ruggs and DeVonta Smith. And that's not to mention any of the offensive linemen.

I would have guessed Tigers running back Michael Dyer had played a year or two in the NFL, but his only professional success came when he apparently won the Champions Indoor Football league's Rookie of the Year award as a member of the Texas Revolution in 2017.

And to top it all off, not only did Newton have little to no talent around him on offense, he was also being coached by Gene Chizik. I'm convinced you could have given Chizik Georgia's roster in either of the last two years and he'd have been just as likely to go 4-8 as 12-0. This Auburn team winning a national title was nothing short of a miracle.

Newton's statue outside Jordan-Hare Stadium is maybe the most deserved monument of anyone in this country short of the Founding Fathers.
