Trea Turner Still Has More Home Runs And RBI In The World Baseball Classic Than In 45 Games For The Phillies This Season
Remember when Trea Turner was Captain America and was going to coast to the National League MVP award this season? Well he must have truly laid everything he had on the line in the World Baseball Classic, because he still hasn't equaled his numbers from those six games in the first two months of the MLB season.
If you would have asked me in March how many homers and RBI Turner would have on May 22, I'd have probably said something like 15 and 35. He was hotter than Hell and half of Georgia and then suddenly couldn't drive in a runner if his life depended on it once Opening Day came around. It's pretty insane, honestly.
I think I've identified the problem, however: he needs to return to Miami to regain his powers. Turner just needs some more plate appearances at LoanDepot Park and he'll surely remember how to hit the baseball. Unfortunately for Turner and Phillies fans, the team doesn't visit Miami until July 7, so it could still be another six weeks of struggles for the $300 million shortstop.
You hate to see that.
We'll always have those few games in the WBC, though. Good times.
