Insomniac Revealed Some Gameplay For The Upcoming "Spider-Man 2" Game And It's Totally Awesome
There are very few Spider-Man projects that I don't get at least some enjoyment out of. Yes, there are a few clunkers (we don't have to talk about "Spider-Man 3"), but Spidey has been pretty consistent. With that said, the current live-action Spider-Man is…good. I think Tom Holland fits the role as well as any actor ever has, but I have bigger soft spots for the iterations that came before it.
But one version of the wall-crawler that I found to be a near-perfect interpretation of the characters (both Peter and Miles Morales) was the 2018 and 2020 video games. I've beaten the 2018 game to its completion probably about half a dozen times. It's not only a great game in terms of graphics, action, and gameplay (the web-swinging through the city made me tear up the first time I played it), but it's the best Spider-Man movie since "Spider-Man 2."
So bottom line, I was very excited about the sequel. I got a little nervous when I saw that venom would be one of the main antagonists, which was a little unfair on my part. Venom is a cool (if not somewhat overrated) Spidey villain, and I'm pumped to see what Insomniac can do with the character. I still have a sour taste in my mouth from "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," which is one of the worst movies I've ever seen, and it's baffling to me how it doesn't get more shit. But I digress.
The footage of the game speaks for itself. Being able to play as Peter Parker and Miles Morales fighting side by side will surely make my heart soar. As excited as I am, I worry about how they'll be able to live up to the 2018 game, but I have faith in the people in charge. This may be an unpopular opinion, but once you get past the origin, I find many of Peter Parker's more interesting stories about him as an adult. It's why "Spider-Man 2" is still the best Spider-Man film because so much of it is just Peter being miserable in adulthood. I can relate. I bring this up because I find this older version of Peter in the video game universe substantially more interesting. It's more in line with what the Andrew Garfield films should've been.
So bottom line, I'm going to be all over this game. We'll start rolling if my tiny brain can finally figure out how to stream on Twitch. Rudy has tried to explain to me how to do it multiple times. I asked him to explain it to me like a 5-year-old. He did. It still confused me. But I'll figure it out one day. Dream big.
What do y'all think? Are you amped for this, or has the superhero fatigue settled in for you, even in the video game universe? Lemme know.
