Really fun day for the future of baseball today as Reds top prospect Elly De La Cruz has finally gotten the call to the big leagues. Most rankings' top prospect in baseball is a 6'5" monster who has all the tools to be a superstar in the sport. He's basically baseball's Paul Bunyan with what he is capable of.

After a strong 2022 campaign that saw him receive a promotion to AA, Cruz followed that up in 2023 by tearing the cover off the ball this year. in AAA. In 38 games this year he posted a .298/.398/.633 triple slash with 12 homers and 36 RBI. He had nothing else left to gain by playing another second down there.

Here's the classic rope-a-dope reveal to Cruz as he found out the news.

Cruz is a switch hitter at the plate with a rocket launcher of an arm at shortstop. He'll draw comps to Pittsburgh's Oneil Cruz and you'll have a hard time dispelling those. His power is immense.

On top of that he runs faster than just about anyone in the sport…

while also throwing harder than most…

The term unicorn gets thrown around recklessly sometimes, but for Cruz it's warranted. He is must watch material and I'm excited for Reds fans to have another young toy to witness. Andrew Abbott tossed six shutout innings in his MLB debut last night for them. Matt McLain has come up and impressed right away through his first 19 games. Both of them being MLB top 100 prospects for Cincy and now they get Cruz's arrival. The Reds are currently 27-33 which to be honest is better than expected given their overall makeup. Hey, they're not in last! They can definitely be feisty moving forward here and give a good team some legit stress with the young talent they've brought up. But the big ticket is Cruz and finally they've unleashed. Let's have some fun.
