AMERICA: Messi Is Reportedly Turning Down A BILLION Dollars And Joining Inter Miami Thanks To This 'Unprecedented Contract' From The MLS
I know Messi is being offered roughly a billion dollars to go to Saudi Arabia, but, this is the MLS doing anything to prevent that. In fact it's such a good offer it's actually worth debating passing up a billion bones for. I only say that for someone like Messi because he's already batshit crazy. He can go ask for a 100% raise and not get laughed at. He can do whatever he wants.
Apparently it was working too with this tweet from last night!
In fact it was apparently down to two teams and Saudi got cut:
[Athletic] - One source briefed on the high-level league discussions said MLS executives were told Messi’s decision is down to Inter Miami or Barcelona and that joining a club from Saudi Arabia is “not under consideration.” That same source mentioned a potential date for Messi’s MLS debut, should he sign: Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup match against Mexican side Cruz Azul on July 21, currently set to be held at Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium.
Even if Miami loans Messi back to Barcelona for a season like we heard they might do, this is still a win. It's a win because Messi won't go to that dogshit Saudi Arabian league. I know Benzema took the money. I know Kante is taking the money. I know Ronaldo took the money. But that league fucking stinks out loud. It's so bad, even if they live up to this plan on trying to sign 20 of the most popular players in the world, it's still going to suck. The MLS actually ain't bad. It's not great, but it ain't bad. It's a way better league than it used to be, that's for sure.
Then again, I'd be scared to go against the hottest club team in the world not named Man City. Look at this goal last night:
But this is what the MLS should be doing. Getting Messi in the league is massive as it continues to grow, especially right after moving to Apple TV. Although the whole streaming shit is a whole different blog. But getting the biggest name in soccer to the league while he can clearly still play is huge. I actually worked in the MLS when Beckham came over to the Galaxy. Those games were fucking wild, I can't imagine Messi + the league growing.
This is legit awesome though. Messi is still damn good. We'll see what happens if he gets loaned to Barcelona and then comes back but either way, a day after it seemed like we heard a bunch of people going to that Saudi league, Messi is coming to America. Rock, flag and eagle baby.
PS: This Barcelona/MLS/Inter Miami vs Saudi Arabia contract happening a day after LIV/PGA is fucking hilarious. Perfectly on brand in the weird ass sports world we live in now.
PPS: What the fuck is going on in South Florida? They are getting every single break in the sports world. From the Panthers to the Heat to the Final Four with Miami and FAU to Brooks winning a major and now Messi.
